Key Event Plans Brighter Future For Sandwell Youth

BBC Journalist and presenter Satnam Rana will be the keynote speaker at a Sandwell event and celebration of young people, organised by the Children and Young People Voluntary and Community Sector Executive Group.

The event, on Tuesday 3 February 2009 from 4pm to 7pm at The Hawthorns – home of West Bromwich Albion – aims to raise awareness and share views on a range of issues affecting young people, and is seen by the Executive Group as an ideal way to report to stakeholders and partners on progress since being formed in 2007.

Satnam, who is part of the team at BBC Midlands Today as a regular presenter and reporter, says “I am looking forward to meeting the young people of Sandwell. We forget that the future lies with the next generation and I believe all adults should offer their support to help our youth grow into responsible citizens’.

The Executive Group shadows Sandwell’s Children & Young People Trust Partnership where it has three representatives. It understands the need to hear the voices of young people in planning the future, and is keen to see young people at this event.

Roger Crouch, Sandwell MBC’s Executive Director of Children’s Services will be in attendance, and the event will include workshops on Play, Disability, Youth Parliament, Contracting, and Small Grants. All Nations Musical Youth Steel Band will be performing, as will the Year 9 Drama Group from Sandwell Academy.

Organisations that provide services to young people will have the opportunity to display material about their work. Those interested in doing so, should indicate when booking. There are limited places available, so it is necessary to restrict attendance to a maximum of 2 delegates per organisation.
