Mergers Masterclass For Third Sector Leaders

Are you a third sector leader, board member or consultant involved currently in a merger or thinking about a future one with another voluntary and community sector organisation?

ACEVO are running a Third Sector Mergers Masterclass in Birmingham on Thursday 25 March 2010, 10.00am – 4.00pm.  The masterclass aims to increase understanding of what to look for in a merger partner and how to structure a merger process, from first approach through to negotiating a final agreement.

The session covers the complex economic, political and organisational issues involved in mergers and training in a proven approach to third sector mergers and other intensive partnerships. The methodology is based on five years of case study research and 12 years of practical experience. The presenter, David La Piana, has personally facilitated more than 100 mergers in the U.S. and has authored three books and multiple papers on the topic.

Topics covered include:

  • The range of partnership options from collaboration through merger.
  • The motivations for merger.
  • Self-assessment and partner assessment – identifying the right partner.
  • Negotiating a merger or other partnership.
  • Potential roadblocks and ways to overcome them.
  • Post-agreement implementation – making the deal real.

There is a relatively small cost for this session, details of which (including booking information) can be found on the ACEVO website.

SCVO would like to learn more about your experience of taking part in the masterclass and your current merger plans.. Please contact Martin Drayton, Project Offier (3Cs) email: martind@scvo.info  or tel: 0121 525 1127.
