Working together enables more things to be achieved. It also helps to avoid duplication and to address issues in a more holistic way. Organisations from across community and faith groups, the council, police and fire & rescue services, charity groups, businesses, schools, health bodies and more are pooling their experience and expertise, so that they can understand local people, places and problems and make sure the right actions are taken and right services delivered. Within Sandwell these partnerships are set up around what is called a Local Strategic Partnership (LSP). Within Sandwell this is called the the Sandwell Partnership. It is a single body that:
The Sandwell Partnership exists to deliver the Sandwell Plan and also Sandwell’s Local Area Agreement. These both contain local priorities which help shape activities that need to be delivered in partnership between the statutory, voluntary and private sectors.
Local Area Agreements (LAAs) set out the priorities for a local area agreed between central government and a local area (the local authority and Local Strategic Partnership) and other key partners at the local level.
LAAs simplify some central funding, help join up public services more effectively and allow greater flexibility for local solutions to local circumstances.
Through these means, LAAs are helping to devolve decision making, move away from a ‘Whitehall knows best’ philosophy and reduce bureaucracy.
In order to delivery these priorities, Sandwell Partnership has 5 key partnership themes:-
• Safer and Stronger Communities
• Children & Young People
• Health & Wellbeing
• Skills and Economic Regeneration
• Environment
• Housing
Within this section you can access further details of the partnership structure and see how we are working to make sure that the voluntary and community sector is represented on these key partnerships.
Voluntary and Community Sector Representation
It is important for the voluntary and community sector to be involved in local partnerships, offering an influential voice to inform how local services are planned and delivered. SCVO currently facilitate the engagement of the voluntary and community sector around Children and Young People and Health and Wellbeing.
This section is split into Sandwell Partnership’s key themes providing an overview of the purpose of each partnership area and highlights the current structures for voluntary and community sector engagement and representation where they exist.
