On the 27 November SCVO in partnership with Sandwell Council’s External Funding Team and the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) held their annual meet the Funder Event at the Public in West Bromwich. A busy day was expected but with over 190 people attending, representing over 120 groups from around West Midlands, this was the busiest Meet the Funder event by far. This year the event was targeted at the smaller community groups and those groups who do not normally attend these kind of events. This was made possible with funding from HLF who subsidised the delegate fee for all of these groups.
The event was opened with a short talk by Linda Saunders, Managing Director of the Public who made a passionate speech about the closing of the Public, the event being the last ever to be held at the Public.
The key note speaker – Reyahn King Head of Heritage Lottery Fund, West Midlands gave an insight into the changes undertaken by HLF having moved to become an outcomes focused funder, she also shared some success stories from the local area.
The event then broke into workshops with individual funder presentations. These presentations can be accessed from the links below.
‘I felt that it was all excellent and would have liked to have gone to all workshops! ‘
‘The Heritage Lottery presentations were superb, and I now realise our organisation can apply!’
‘Effective networking and information from the funders to help intelligent bid writing to have more impact – an excellent event all around.’
‘I am more focused in my fundraising, and much more clearer about my budget information’
‘The event will help us develop better funding bids, but more than this, we are now considering other funders that we had not considered before’
‘This was a brilliant programme and a gift of life in my opinion for small, local voluntary sector groups’
Thanks goes to all of those who helped pull the event together, including the External Funding Team at SMBC, the Staff at SCVO and the team from the Public. Final thanks goes to all of the funders who turned up on the day, without whose contribution, there would have been no event.
