Amateur photographers are being invited to get out their cameras for a competition to mark the 125th anniversary of West Smethwick Park.

Photos of the park throughout 2020 – the 125th year since it opened in 1895 – will be turned into a 2021 calendar.

The photography competition will have three rounds through the year, each with its own theme.
    • January – 31 March – The theme is Together
    • 1 April – 30 June – The theme is Movement
    • 1 July – 11 October – The theme is Colour

The competition is open to amateur photographers and photos entered must be taken at the park during the specific round of the competition.

Money raised from the sale of the calendar, which will be sold by The Friends of West Smethwick Park, will help them run activities to benefit the park.

The park is currently undergoing a £5.1million transformation thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sandwell Council.

The park’s transformation, which will include the construction of a new pavilion, refurbishment of the monuments and gates, creation of a new boathouse feature and nature conservation improvements, is now well under way.

Each round of the photography competition will be judged by a different group or partner – judges will be announced over the course of the year. The winning four photos in each round will feature in the 2021 calendar.

For more information, how to enter and terms and conditions go to www.sandwell.gov.uk/westsmethwickpark, email wsp_project@sandwell.gov.uk, call 0121 569 4247 or search “The West Smethwick Park” on Facebook.
