We are looking for an inspiring and engaging youth leader with an ability to motivate and empower young people across Handsworth. With your encouragement, groups of young people aged between 10 and 14 years old (Green Influencers) will engage with their peers and others in their local community and lead on environmental action projects. They will learn engagement techniques, project and budget management and project delivery skills while making a difference to the environment and connecting to their local community.

    About us:
Handsworth Association of Schools (HAOS) is one of the host organisations for the Green Influencers Scheme. Handsworth Association of Schools is a charitable network of over 20 primary and secondary schools which exists to improve the life chances, family health, well-being and social integration of multi-ethnic families in Handsworth Birmingham. Our member schools are in the wards of Handsworth, Handsworth Wood, Lozells, Birchfield and Soho, all in Perry Barr Constituency Locality. We work with schools to support them with citizenship programmes, children’s learning projects, for over 10,000 families. We also provide conference facilities, staff training and transport services, as well as developing family support projects to support families in poverty, to overcome barriers to their progress, and help build stronger relationships between communities and lead to community action. Like many organisations since the Covid 19 crisis began we have been unable to offer the same services, so we have adapted to meet the current needs of our children and families and now also provide a foodbank service to support our most vulnerable families.

The post holder will be highly organised and have good relationship skills to assist building relationships with children, young people, teachers, and school stakeholders. You will be engaging, enthusiastic and have the ability to problem solve to ensure the project runs smoothly. This is an all year round post and will involve working afterschool, during school holidays and some weekends.
