Making Sandwell More Autism Friendly: Project with Move More Sandwell
Who are Changing Our Lives
Changing Our Lives is a rights based organisation that works in coproduction with disabled people and people with lived experience of mental health difficulties.
They work in coproduction with disabled people of all ages to know about their rights, and have good lives.
What this work is about
Changing Our Lives has received funding through Sandwell Vision 2030 Community Grants to deliver a project to raise awareness, understanding and acceptance of autism within Sandwell Move More organisations and to connect more autistic people in to a range of these organisations. As part of this they are offering Move More organisations a free autism awareness training session covering an awareness of autism, reasonable adjustments and person centred ways of working with autistic individuals.
These sessions will be co-led by an Associate of Changing Our Lives who is autistic and an experienced trainer. This person is a resident of Sandwell who has developed from a volunteer into a paid trainer. These sessions will take place online and can be held during the evenings or daytime, dependent on what suits local people. They are likely to be 2.5 hours in length with a comfort break. They can use most online platforms to deliver this training to suit participants.
They are particularly keen to work with the small, local, grassroots sports and physical exercise networks and clubs, although we are happy to also include the larger organisations such as leisure centres.
Interested organisations, clubs and networks can contact Jackie Taylor for more information and to sign up to the training by contacting Jackie Taylor, Senior Development Officer by Mobile: 07498 025641 or Email: jackie@changingourlives.org
