Celebrating Summer Activities in the Voluntary Sector – SPDC
This summer was a busy time for Sandwell’s voluntary and community offering support for children, young people and families. We wanted to take this time to highlight some of the great work that was offered.
SPDC delivered a range of activities to 106 SEND children and their siblings and parents/carers across the borough during the summer holidays. Our face-to-face activities included horse riding, canoeing and an animal man experience. We had fun family days out to Sycamore Adventure Centre, 3G swing and high ropes at Blackwell Adventure Centre plus raft building and paddle boarding at a local watersports facility.
We provided 84 families with food packs meaning that 335 people received meals and resources to learn about healthy eating and cooking.
We witnessed improved confidence and problem-solving skills in the young people who attended our face-to-face activities. Young people were able to take part in ‘out of the ordinary’ activities and experience new challenges and develop new skills and hobbies.
