Headway Black Country: New Chief Officer

Headway Black Country was set up to promote understanding of all aspects of acquired brain injury and to provide information support and services for people with acquired brain injury, their families and carers.

The organisation is looking for a new Chief Officer to consolidate the learning made during the pandemic and to help us use this learning to grow the support offered to the community going forward.

Brushstrokes Smethwick: Asylum Guide Co-ordinator

Brushstrokes is looking to recruit an Asylum Guides Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the national asylum guides programme led by Refugee Action along with six other partners across England.

Salary: SCP 22 – £22,539.00 per annum, pro rata

Hours: 12 per week

Term:  Fixed to December 2024

New £5000 Healthy Lifestyles grant programme – deadline 1pm 11th February

Sandwell Council is inviting voluntary and community sector organisations working in Sandwell to express their interest in applying to a new fund with grants of up to £5000 available to deliver initiatives that help people move towards adopting healthier lifestyles. They’re looking for projects that engage people who are experiencing poor health or social isolation, and welcome applications that will help people to become more physically active, eat healthier and improve their health generally.

The fund is aimed at organisations looking to work with adults and young people aged 16+. Potential projects could look at diet and nutrition, physical activity, or promote healthy behaviour change for people who are overweight or living with obesity, or could be focused on improving mental and social wellbeing.

The council is also aiming to increase uptake of the weigh2go smart scales that many venues around Sandwell already use to help people manage their weight, and can provide sets of scales and support with group management free of charge as additional support for any successful project.

Rights and Equality Sandwell (RES)is a third sector, voluntary and community organisation, currently going through an exciting  period of change, and now finds itself in a  position of being able to offer this thrilling part-time position of case worker to the right candidate.

Educated to degree level, you will be empathetic and have excellent listening and communication skills, supporting clients who have experienced discriminatory practices in a variety of settings.  It will be your responsibility to gather and present the information to a variety of audiences, so excellent literacy, communication and written English skills will be needed. You will need to have a proven, genuine interest in equality, diversity and inclusion and casework experience of addressing discriminatory practices that have a negative impact on communities and peoples’ life and work.

As a caseworker you will identify and promote best practices towards different minority groups in a variety of settings.

Your excellent ICT skills will enable you to produce quarterly newsletters, update and inform social media, in addition to promoting and publicising RES at events.

Grants to improve and develop allotments

pound-850369_1280Grants of between £250 and £2,000 are available to registered Allotment Associations and committees across the UK for the improvement and development of facilities on registered and permitted sites.

The funding is being made available by the National Allotment Gardens Trust which aims to advance and improve the Allotments/Gardens movement through education, training, workshops and support.

Non-statutory sites may also be granted funding if a long-term lease is in place. Applications will be assessed by the Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis.

The next deadline for applications is the 1st April 2022.

Funding to improve online digital presence for small charities

UK charities can apply for funding of up to £2,500 to help them improve their online digital presence. The Fat Beehive Foundation awards small grants to charities with an average income of less than £1 million a year to support hard-to-fund digital expenditure that other funders will often not cover.

Funding will help organisations to build websites and apps, digitise services, and purchase digital products. Priority will be given to projects which focus on

  • Environmental protection or climate change mitigation,
  • Human rights,
  • International development,
  • Equality and diversity,
  • Social justice / refugees / housing,
  • Education,
  • Art and culture,
  • Health and wellbeing,
  • Prisoner rehabilitation.

Applications are considered on a rolling basis at quarterly trustee meetings which are normally held in April, July, October, and January.

Dorothy Parkes ‘Loss Matters Programme’ to help with grief, bereavement and loss

Grief and loss can turn your world upside down, isolation can make and it worse. The Dorothy Parkes Centre has received an SCVO Vision 2030 Community Mental Health grant, which will enable them to provide free support programmes through its Loss Matters initiative, for members of the local community who have had experience of grief, bereavement and loss.

The Centre will deliver eight-week support programmes.  Ten courses will be delivered, each course to accommodate up to eight people. The programmes will be delivered at various times throughout the week – mornings/afternoons/evenings – over a twelve-month period, with the first programme starting in the autumn.

Migration: Policy & Practice – 1st Network Meeting, Jan 27th ’22.

Migration: Policy & Practice is in the process of organising an initial meeting for groups in the sector to come together and discuss the findings of their first Sector Assessment – BARRIERS TO MIGRANT INTEGRATION: CHALLENGES FACING MIGRANTS AND THE MIGRATION SUPPORT SECTOR IN BIRMINGHAM AND THE BLACK COUNTRY.

They are keen to build on the momentum following the release of the report and look to bring together a broad coalition of groups working on the issues raised, develop responses and ensuring the needs of migrants are included in strategic planning.

New grants scheme launched by Eveson Charitable Trust

Eveson Charitable Trust are pleased to announce the launch of their new grants scheme ‘Enhance Grants’.

Registered charities that they have supported previously can apply for up to £10,000 to fund training or consultancy advice in areas such as strategy, safeguarding and governance. New applicants are also welcome to apply.

Charities can apply while they currently hold a grant from them, but they won’t fund work that has already taken place.

News from the National Churches Trust

Twenty Twenty One was a challenging year for churches, with many still struggling with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, yet the dedication and commitment of those involved in looking after these buildings continued to shine through. 

Last year the National Churches Trust awarded or recommended 273 grants totalling £3.677 million to help keep churches open and in good repair. That includes £2 million from the Heritage Stimulus Fund, part of the Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund.
