Screening approaches and mental health screening tools can influence the disclosure of mental health problems in pregnant women and new mothers, particularly, among those from non-English speaking communities. As such, there is a need to get a better understanding of the effectiveness of the current standardised screening tools for identifying mental health issues in the perinatal/post-natal period within our different communities, particularly where English is not the first language.

As part of a research project, Sandwell council in partnership with NHS, will be hosting a listening event to hear first-hand the experiences of services users and their families to help improve our mental health services.

We are therefore inviting all community organisations and their service users to a Health and Wellbeing: Engaging with Diverse Communities event on Thursday 4th May 2023 at Smethwick Children’s Centre, Corbett St, Smethwick B66 3PX.

This event will take place 11.00am to 1.00pm and will include colleagues at NHS, community centres, multi faith groups and Sandwell consultum to engage and network with others.

To register interest and help us plan for the day, please email Ayodele_Adebisi@sandwell.gov.uk or Jane_hemuka@sandwell.gov.uk
