Deaf Awareness Week is an annual event held across the UK, with the aim of promoting Deaf Awareness and providing people with tips, support and information to be more inclusive to the Deaf community. SDCA at the New Deaf Centre, Summer St, West Bromwich, is hosting a mini festival for Deaf Awareness Week and its 20th year anniversary, and they have lots of different events.
On the 2nd & 3rd May are BSL taster workshops for basic sign language and deaf awareness. These are specifically for those who are with Deaf people every day, such as frontline workers or people with Deaf family members. To attend this, you will need to pre-book.
On the 4th May is a coffee morning for anyone to come and network. It doesn’t matter if you are Deaf, hearing, signing or non-signing – all are welcome. There will be tea, coffee and delicious cakes.
The main event is on the 5th May. There will be lots of stalls for all kinds of different things, including information from organisations and various Deaf businesses. There will be workshops with Deaf chefs, a theatre performance and a media workshop. A fresh cooked lunch will be available to buy.

SDCA will be celebrating the King’s Coronation at all these events so come along and enjoy the celebrations.
