Earlier in 2023 the government announced ‘Levelling Up’ funding of £20million on projects to develop and improve services and the local environment in Wednesbury. Now Sandwell Council is calling on representatives from the local Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) in the town to help inform and shape plans for this exciting investment.
The funding programme, which will be delivered by March 2025, will enable new homes to be built, will make improvements to green spaces and public places, will extend community centre provision and will provide deterrents to crime and anti-social behaviour.
Overseeing and steering the delivery of this programme will be a ‘Levelling Up Partnership’, comprising councillors, MPs, statutory bodies, business leaders, voluntary sector representatives and young people. The Board will bring all partners together to ensure that community voices are heard and are central to the design and decision-making processes, so that the funding make the greatest possible difference to Wednesbury residents.
The Wednesbury Levelling Up Partnership is inviting applications from anyone who is part of a VCS group – as a volunteer, staff or committee member – and who has experience and insight into the needs of the town and a passion and commitment for the aims of the fund. There is a strong emphasis on hearing the views of all parts of our diverse Wednesbury community.
Partnership meetings will take place monthly and all positions are voluntary. Training and support will be offered, and no previous experience is necessary. Further details of this exciting opportunity and how to apply can be found here.
