Social Economy Drive West Midlands is the new chapter of an annual celebration of social enterprise which started life in Birmingham as ‘CityDrive’ over a decade ago.

Supported by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) for 2023, this exciting programme of events is rolling out across the West Midlands to celebrate the achievements and potential of the social economy in Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Starting on 13 November 2023 expect an incredible week of showcase events across the West Midlands, incorporating Social Enterprise Day 2023 on Thursday 16 November.

There’s a dedicated Sandwell event being hosted by SCVO on the afternoon of Wednesday, 15th November that explores the opportunities that social enterprises offer the local community, with a focus on what can make a difference in Sandwell specifically and what support is available to nurture, enable and resource new initiatives in the borough.

‘Creating Impact Through Enterprise’ is for budding entrepreneurs, new or fledgling social enterprises as well as for established charities and not-for-profits that want to expand and develop their services through trading. The event will cover:-

    • An introduction to social enterprise, and what our ‘social economy’ landscape looks like across Sandwell and the West Midlands region
    • How to access local ‘incubator’ support for new enterprises, to benefit from coaching or to secure funds and resources to pump-prime your organisation or project
    • Ways in which established organisations can look to diversify their funding through traded services, highlighting examples of sustainable activity in Sandwell
    • An opportunity to network with other delegates and meet support providers face-to-face.
