Tipton Town libraries history group will be hosting their first Black Country Fayre at Tipton Sports Academy, Wednesbury Oak Road, Tipton on Sunday 16th June from 11am – 4pm.

There will be stalls from all over the Black Country featuring local societies, history groups, authors celebrating the best in the Black Country, Popular Black Country Radio presenter Billy Spakemon will be opening the fayre.

During the event there will be a special spotlight on famous local company Palethorpes as company historian John Dunn will be exhibiting his collection of photos and memorabilia. Anyone remembering, or who worked there are urged to come in and share a memory.

This September sees the return of the legendary Tipton Canal Festival and organiser Kev Maslin will be on hand to answer any questions.

Author of two best-selling books on local pubs and taverns Steve James will be on hand, bringing in old photos and signing copies of his latest book which would make an ideal gift for Father’s Day.

The history group will be launching their first heritage calendar ‘Where’s Willy’ featuring the Black Country Adventures of a knitted William Perry or aka Tipton Slasher. The knitted slasher has been travelling across the region having his photo taken at well-known and some lesser-known spots. The diary part of the calendar is crammed full of key historical dates making it this year’s local history must have All proceeds from the calendar will be going towards repairs to his grave at St John’s Church. There will also be a range of Slasher related items for sale.

So, with free parking and a licensed bar everyone is invited to come and share what should be a Bostin event!
