Consultation On The Renewal Of West Bromwich Town Centre PSPO
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is currently consulting on the renewal of the West Bromwich Town Centre Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). This PSPO, which was introduced in 2018 and renewed in 2021, plays a crucial role in addressing behaviours that significantly impact public safety and order in the area. Specifically, the order prohibits the following:
- Acting or inciting others to act in a manner that causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm, or distress to any person.
- Threatening any person with violence and/or being verbally abusive towards any person.
- Begging or asking members of the public for money, or loitering for the purpose of begging or asking members of the public for money.
- Causing a motor vehicle or trailer to stand on a road and/or footpath so as to cause any unnecessary obstruction of the road and/or footpath.
This PSPO also complements the Boroughwide Alcohol PSPO, which was renewed in March 2021. As PSPOs must be reviewed every 3 years, we are now seeking feedback on the renewal of this order through a public consultation.
Given the critical role that the voluntary and community sector plays in supporting and advocating for residents, your insights and perspectives are invaluable to this consultation.
To participate in the consultation, please complete the consultation document available on the council’s website at: West Bromwich Town Centre PSPO Renewal Consultation. The consultation will run until the 15th of September, 2024.
Please be assured that all responses will be treated confidentially and used solely for the purpose of this consultation.
For reference, there is a map outlining the area covered by this proposal, additional information on what a PSPO is, and a paper version of the form to facilitate participation.
