Does Your Charity Have a Role to Play in Suicide Prevention?
The Charity Commission are raising awareness amongst registered charities of new NHS England guidance for all mental health practitioners in England, working across public, private and charity sectors. The new guidance supports the government’s work to reduce suicide and improve mental health services.
The guidance promotes a shift towards a more holistic, person-centred approach rather than relying on risk prediction, which is unreliable because suicidal thoughts can change quickly. Instead, it recommends using a method based on understanding each person’s situation and managing their safety.
