Options for Life Scores Big with The National Lottery Grant for Inclusive Football Sessions

Options for Life, a Sandwell-based charity supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, are thrilled to announce that they have received a grant of £1,443 from Sport England’s The Movement Fund, made possible by the National Lottery. This funding will enable them to deliver a 13-week programme of inclusive football sessions at the Goals facility in Rowley Regis. They are grateful to the National Lottery players.

The project was born from the voices of their participants, who expressed a strong desire for regular football opportunities—not just for fitness, but for fun, friendship, and a sense of belonging. These sessions will help break down barriers to physical activity, offering a safe, structured, and supportive environment led by our experienced staff.

Nicola, CEO of Options for Life, said:

“This funding from Sport England’s The Movement Fund is making a real difference in people’s lives. We’ve seen first hand how regular football sessions boost confidence, improve well-being, and foster a strong sense of community among our participants. Their enthusiasm is clear—not just on the pitch, but also at our annual football awards ceremony, where achievements are celebrated and prizes are presented by our team. The smiles and pride on display each year reflect the lasting impact these opportunities have.

We are deeply grateful to Sport England for helping us continue to break down barriers and make sport accessible for everyone.”

National data shows that only 9% of adults with learning disabilities meet recommended physical activity levels, and many face challenges such as social isolation and a lack of accessible opportunities. Our football programme aims to change that by promoting inclusion, confidence, and health through sport.

The sessions will run weekly for 13 weeks, featuring skill-building activities, friendly matches, and mini-tournaments. Participants will also have the chance to celebrate their achievements at our annual football awards ceremony.

This grant ensures that Options for Life can continue creating meaningful opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autism—helping them stay active, connected, and proud of their progress.
