Celebrating Summer Activities in the Voluntary Sector – Sport 4 Life

This summer was a busy time for Sandwell’s voluntary and community offering support for children, young people and families.   We wanted to take this time to highlight some of the great work that was offered.

Sport 4 Life UK (S4L) provided a sports themed holiday programme that worked with 11-16 year olds in the Greets Green. During the Summer we worked in partnership with Action for Children to provide a programme that contained:

Sports provision – a combination of multi sports, such as football, basketball, cricket and rounders as well as an introduction to new sports like tchoukball and handball. using our sports syllabus our sessions were designed to increase life skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, fair play, and respect

Enrichment activities including employability workshops and trips to Drayton Manor and Flip Out trampolining.

Food and nutritional support – each participant was provided with a nutritional meal each day and discussed the benefits of a balanced diet.

Sports Leaders UK Level 1 qualification – young people gained an accredited qualification.

Feedback from the activities was extremely positive.

“He absolutely loved it. At first, he was a little hesitant and was unsure of why I had signed him up. But he ended up loving it and even wished he was there at weekends”
