Applications are now open for the Community Business Trade Up Programme, run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs in partnership with Power to Change
Community businesses across England can now apply for a learning programme and a grant matched to their earnings of up to £10,000, to support their growth and increase the difference they make to their local area. The programme is free to attend.
The Community Business Trade Up Programme, run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE), in partnership with Power to Change, is open for applications until Thursday 14th February 2019. This is the third year the programme has run.
The programme supports the leaders of community businesses with:
- a Match Trading™ grant of up to £10,000
- a fully funded nine-month learning programme (consisting of 12 learning days)
- a community of supportive peers
The learning programme will help the leaders of community businesses to develop the skills, strengths and networks they need to increase their impact, with a focus on increasing their sales and income from trading. It runs from June 2019 to March 2020 and there are places for 10 community business leaders across The Midlands who will learn in groups of like-minded people.
The first cohort of the Community Business Trade Up Programme achieved a typical 92% increase in income from trading.

Expressions of interest are being sought from Social Entrepreneurs who are starting or recently started a Social Enterprise in the Midlands. The programme, sponsored by Lloyds Bank is free to attend and comes with a grant of £1000.
The programme comprises 14 study sessions over a 12 month period from October 2019 to October 2020. The application window runs from February 2019 through to mid-April 2019 but interested parties can obtain an application pack and sign up for reminders by visiting
Three levels of programme are available nationally depending on the size and age of the enterprise. Only the Start-Up programme is available in the Midlands.
