Collaborative Funding Bids…Overcoming the Challenges

SCVO is organising a workshop on the topic of “Collaboration”.

We are finding that an increasing number of funders are looking for collaborative/partnership bids from organisations, whether that is from organisations with similar geographic delivery and beneficiary cohorts, or from complimentary delivery groups. Indeed, SCVO has had some success in supporting clients to bid as a collaborative body (with common systems, structures and processes).

BUT…it is NOT easy! So we’re delivering this workshop to help organisations explore the topic in more detail and to see if collaborative/partnership working could work for them.

This workshop will be delivered by Shamsher Dharsani, SCVO’s Capacity Development Coach, who has experience of having successfully set up a number of collaborations (with a variety of governance agreements agreed by the collaborative partners). He is a strong believer in not taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but always cautions prospective collaborators to enter such ‘relationships’ in an open and honest manner; all the better for healthy long-term relationships!

Using case studies of which Shamsher has experience, you will be engaged in discussing some of the ‘thorny’ elements of the tasks involved in creating successful collaborations…How is trust created? Can you be ‘diplomatically frank’? What needs challenging? … and How to avoid ‘wonky structures’ – to name but a few!

This is a great opportunity to grow your ‘elephant’ spotting and training skills (you know, those ones that always gather in most rooms but which we’re often unsure/afraid of how to tackle!)
