Following SCVO’s ‘GDPR in a nutshell’ lunchtime briefing session back in September, we promised to deliver a more practical workshop regarding what organisations need to be doing in order to comply with The General Data Protection Regulation, which comes into force on 25 May 2018.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will affect how charities work with data and look after this valuable information. The new laws are more detailed and carry the potential for hefty financial penalties. We recommend you plan for this now. This course will be your first step toward becoming GDPR compliant.
This interactive course will help you understand and implement your data processing in terms of storage, access, what you do if there is a data breach and training your staff.
By the end of the day you will have:
Who should attend?
Whatever type of organisation you may be, if you process personal data you will need to be GDPR compliant. This would include anyone within an organisation that handles or processes the personal data of staff, service users, beneficiaries, volunteers, customers, members and supporters. If you process special category data such as health, sexual orientation and religious beliefs or children’s data this course will help to guide you through your extra responsibilities you have under the new legislation.
This course will also be suitable for individuals that procure services from third parties where personal data is shared.
Who runs it?
SCVO has commissioned the services of Mark Burnett, who is a NCVO associate and a fully qualified Data Protection Officer. He is an experienced fundraiser and marketer and can offer a unique insight into how GDPR will impact on the voluntary sector. He is Head of Privacy at ClearComm which is part of the Kingston Smith group as well as a Committee Member, Treasurer and recognised trainer for the IoF South East and London regions.
