The Department of Health has announced that round 2 of its Improving Health Based Places of Safety Fund is open for applications. During this funding round, £8.9 million of capital funding is available to NHS providers, Local Authorities and third sector organisations, as agreed by their local Crisis Care Concordat group, to provide new and improved health based places of safety and mental health crisis support facilities across England.
The aim is to improve the provision, capacity and quality of health based places of safety to better support people detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983. The funding can be used to:
• Refurbish or improve existing health-based places of safety, for example to increase capacity
• Build new places of safety
• Make existing places of safety suitable for people aged 18 and under; create mental health crisis cafes or places of calm; provide ambulance transport to places of safety
• Provide vehicles for mobile services to respond to mental health crises in the community.
There is no minimum or maximum amount of grant specified.
The deadline for applications is the 23rd September 2016.
