Creative Black Country (CBC) is running two open calls as part of Cosy Communities to deliver creative activities in a warm and comfortable space for local communities in the Black Country. They are looking for creative responses which will bring fun, joy, connection, and creativity to local people in the Black Country between now and 31st March 2023.

Charities need to do more to encourage trustees from a wider range of ages, backgrounds and communities. However many charities struggle to know how to do this.
There are about 1 million people in the UK doing a fantastic job as a trustee and they should be proud of their immense efforts. However many charities need help their boards and need to have easier access to the skills, knowledge and experience that their organisation needs – people with lived experience of what we are trying to tackle, or with the skills, knowledge and experience to enhance their board.
Recent research by the insurance firm Ecclesiastical reported that 79% of trustees agree that charities need to do more to encourage trustees from a wider range of ages, backgrounds and communities, but many charities struggle to know how to do this.

The charity sector is unique due to its delivery of social change rather than just monetary gain for an organisation and that places unique demands on its customer service.
On this course you will spend time learning how effective customer service is delivered in the charity sector, how modern customer service teams operate, and how individuals should behave when handling conversations with beneficiaries. It will also look at how to ask for feedback and then record performance to understand how effectively the team is operating.

Charities hit hardest by spiralling energy costs are facing a precarious position unless the government continues to subside bills beyond March 2023.
NCVO have urgently appealed for the government to ensure voluntary organisations get continued support from the Energy Bill Relief Scheme, outlining the risks for communities if the current support package stops.
It is vital that members support this call to the government as we need to express the critical situation which is facing communities across the country, and outline to MPs what will happen if charities facing rising energy costs are not supported.

Registered charities whose activities support and encourage the family to work as a cohesive unit in tackling problems that face one or more of its members can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 (but trustees will consider requests for higher amounts) through the Kelly Family Charitable Trust.
The Trust will consider both capital and revenue grants. The Trust is happy to support requests for core funding as well as project-based grants, and actively encourages applications from relatively new organisations to help them become established.
The three areas of activity that the charity wishes to support are:
- Interventions that support families and help them in ways that prevent the fracture of the family unit, e.g. practical family support, relationship counselling, mediation.
- Families where sexual abuse, physical abuse, domestic violence, alcohol abuse and drug abuse threaten the integrity of the family unit.
- Prisoners and in particular their families, during and after the period of imprisonment.
The trust prefers to support charities whose income is below £500,000. However, larger charities with pioneering pilot projects will be considered.
Grants are awarded twice a year and the next closing date for applications is the 1st March 2023.
Twelve Days of Giving is the last phase of the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good programme for 2022.
For 12 days in December, they will be drawing 10 charities per working day to receive £1,000. The first draw takes place on December 1st and the last on the 16th.

In response to the current cost-of-living crisis, Severn Trent Water is making £150,000 in funding available to cover core costs for charities and community groups in the East Midlands, West Midlands and South West of England, who are finding it hard to maintain their activities during the current economic crisis.
Through the Severn Trent Community Fund: Core Funding, grants of between £5,000 and £20,000 are available to help not-for-profit organisations to continue delivering their vital services to communities in the Severn Trent region. The funding is available for one year.
The funding can be used to cover essential running expenses which could include management and administration, general office costs (rent and utilities), accountancy and audit, fundraising, communications, and general/governance costs.
The fund will remain open to applications until all the funding has been awarded, and competition for funding is expected to be strong.
