Plasma is part of our blood, containing antibodies which fight infections. Plasma is made into live-saving medicines which save the lives of thousands of people with rare diseases.
There is a global supply shortage due to rising demand. Up until now, the UK has depended on imports of blood plasma from other countries – mainly the US. Donations to NHSBT will bolster the supply chain and improve the self-sufficiency of the UK in producing its own treatments.
Fourteen donor centres around England are now taking donations of plasma. In the West Midlands, these are Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton Donor Centres.
The NHBT urgently need you to donate plasma. If you would like to donate, please call 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk/plasma for more details.
