Omega is an end of life charity working hard to raise standards in end of life care by supporting caregivers looking after someone with a terminal illness, people who are themselves end of life, and those who have been bereaved. The priority is those aged over 75 and still caring or bereaved.
Loneliness and social isolation can arise as a result of demanding care giving duties, loss and age, and the charity is committed to helping caregivers and the bereaved stay connected in later life. Omega is able to help these people through their very special befriending services: Chatterbox Action Against Loneliness Programmer and A Letter from Louise Pen Pal Service.
Chatterbox Action Against Loneliness Programmer is Omega’s multi-award-winning telephone befriending service, which matches lonely clients with volunteer befrienders for half-hour weekly phone calls. The service provides regular and meaningful companionship, emotional support and situation monitoring. For clients who have no friends or family to help, Chatterbox can also provide more practical support such as help with finding veterinary support or securing food bank deliveries.
A Letter from Louise Pen Pal Service is a safeguarded befriending service, connecting clients with volunteer pen pals for a regular exchange of letters, photographs, art work and stories. The service can be offered to those who are extremely isolated as a way to gently connect with another person; for others, it provides a creative outlet and something to look forward to receiving in the post.
